pertenencia.

Brain Injury and
Impaired Awareness of Illness (anosognosia): Impact on the Patient and Family
Caregivers
Introduction: Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is one of
the main problems of present public health, due to the morbid-mortality that it implies. Great part of the people that survive are young adults who undergo serious
handicaps. For this reason they have a functional dependency on their relatives
in daily life activities, and it is the cause for which they need to enter medical aid centers. Objective: To identify socio-demographic,
psychological and psycho-social factors associated with TBI and to clarify the
negative impact of this phenomenon in patients and caregivers. Method:
Bibliographical search through electronic data bases, completed
manually on the basis of reference lists of published articles The selected
works corresponded to the objective of the study and were analyzed
qualitatively. Results and conclusions: 42 empirical
works were selected whose results indicate that the measurement of the level of anosognosia
in patients with TBI would turn out to be a predicting element of the social
insertion of the patient. Furthermore, this pathology affects the bonds of the patient
with the family and group of belonging.
